William J. Dailey, Jr.
Senior Partner, Sloane and Walsh LLP
A legendary trial advocate respected for his integrity, professionalism, and sense of community
May 30, 2018—Established with a generous gift from Sloane and Walsh LLP in honor of its esteemed senior partner, the William J. Dailey, Jr. Scholarship Fund recognizes a giant of the bar and legendary trial lawyer respected for his skill, integrity, professionalism, and sense of community. Each year, scholarships from this fund will benefit lawyers who serve the public interest, including legal aid staff attorneys, practitioners who accept pro bono cases, and other deserving lawyers who, without financial assistance, would not be able to attend MCLE programs.
For more than five decades, Bill has been a leader in the defense bar, deftly representing clients in matters of professional responsibility, product liability, general liability, insurance coverage, and general civil litigation, and has helped grow Sloane and Walsh into one of New England’s foremost defense law firms. A master in the courtroom and admired for his high standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism and collegiality, he has been inducted as a Fellow in both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and has been the recipient of the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association’s Defense Lawyer of the Year Award. A graduate of Boston College and Georgetown University Law Center, he is recognized as one of the 100 best lawyers in Massachusetts and perennially appears on lists of Massachusetts Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America.
A mentor to lawyers inside and outside his firm, Bill generously shares his expertise and skillfully teaches others in the art of trial advocacy and dispute resolution. Throughout his distinguished career, he has actively participated in MCLE personal injury law programs and trial advocacy workshops, has been a contributing author on MCLE’s publication, Massachusetts Courtroom Advocacy, and has served as a lecturer on related topics for the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, Harvard Law School, and Suffolk Law School.
With deep gratitude for the generosity of his partners at Sloane and Walsh, it is with great pride that MCLE announces this scholarship fund in Bill’s name. We hope that endowing scholarships annually for public service lawyers to attend MCLE training programs is a fitting and meaningful way to honor his commitment and dedication to the profession and the education of the bar.
