After the Emergency declaration, a series of orders and advisories began to issue to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As a result, we are seeing access to food and supplies reduced, schools and non-essential businesses closed, personal access to Courts and state agencies prohibited and residents remain advised to shelter in place. The health effects of COVID-19 and the mitigation efforts have dramatically altered our lives and caused negative impacts on our economy, self-sustainability, and safety.
On the ground, advocates are navigating through this crisis to identify and develop virtual ways to reach those who need help and address critical issues such as loss of employment, accessing public assistance, possible loss of housing and homeliness, as well as dealing with family support and visitation orders or threat of domestic violence. With the generous support of Ropes & Gray LLP, this free webcast-only program provides legal and social service advocates a view of the most critical issues affecting residents, provides an overview of important government orders, advisories, and supports for residents, and shares how advocates are operating in a virtual world to reach out, and help those most in need.
