      Highlights from the many developments reflected in this edition include

      • numerous amendments to court rules and orders, including
        • amendments to the Massachusetts Rules of Civil Procedure regarding service by email, electronic signatures by judges and clerks, and the replacement of judges who become unavailable during the course of trial;
        • revisions to Rules 9A through 9E of the Rules of the Superior Court;
        • new Superior Court standing orders on videoconferencing and e-filing; and
        • amendments to Rule 1.15 (safekeeping property) of the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct;
      • updates to the Massachusetts General Laws and incorporation of additional case annotations;
      • a recent Supreme Judicial Court decision addressing how the statute of limitations will be applied in wrongful death cases; and
      • twenty-two new entries in the book's case digest, addressing, among other topics, anti-SLAPP litigation, vicarious liability for the negligent use of loaner vehicles, imposition of time limits on attorneys' conduct at trial, awards of prejudgment interest in Chapter 93A cases, assessment of whether a plaintiff's recovery will exceed the $50,000 threshold for actions in the Superior Court, the reasonable foreseeability of shootings outside a nightclub, whether an assault may be considered "physical abuse" as that term is used in homeowners' insurance policies, and the scope of immunity under the Massachusetts Tort Claims Act.
