Available in-person at MCLE's Conference Center and via live webcast.

Social Security disability programs continue to be a major source of cash and health benefits for individuals with disabilities. However, dealing with a large federal agency can be daunting and overwhelming, especially for an unrepresented claimant. The program begins with an overview of the two disability programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA), with emphasis on eligibility requirements and procedures, including online procedures and any remaining COVID-19 related procedures, basic disability eligibility standards and nondisability issues such as income, resources, and non-citizen criteria. An explanation of the recently revised evidence submission and analysis rules begins the afternoon session followed by an overview of the appeals process for disability applications. Concluding the program is a review of certain postentitlement issues, with special emphasis on continuing disability reviews, work incentives rules, and benefits overpayments.

The training is for legal services advocates, lawyers in private practice who are thinking of representing clients before SSA, social and health workers, and community activists.

COVID-19 Employment Law Landmines & Best Practices a Year into the Pandemic

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic brought with it countless areas of uncharted territory, especially in the employment context. For many, it quickly forced the adjustment to remote-work arrangements for the first time, while other businesses were forced to temporarily or permanently close their doors altogether. Questions loom as employers and employees alike struggle with balancing individual safety with keeping operations afloat. Now, a year into the pandemic, we can reflect on what we have learned, what is still in flux, and what steps we can take now to move forward in our new normal. This new program provides essential insight into these topics and offers suggestions for navigating issues that we continue to face a year into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mastering Remote Productivity & Document Management Outside the Office

Recent events highlight the need for lawyers and their staff to access documents remotely. As a result, working with traditional paper files has become a challenge, if not a practical impossibility. Because documents remain the foundation of everything lawyers do, they must adopt workflows to assure that they can access, edit and manipulate their electronic documents as efficiently as possible. In this program, practicing attorney and technology consultant Daniel J. Siegel outlines how to organize and access data and information with ease, name files uniformly, and work with in-office and remote systems to assure that your documents are always synchronized.
